Emotional message in a bottle thrown off California pier by woman battling cancer three years ago washes up 6,200 miles away in Guam

A moving message in a bottle that traveled nearly 6,200 miles across the Pacific Ocean surprised its senders and discovers alike when it washed ashore last week.

Brittanie Penrose, who was recovering from brain cancer, and Aaron Lanari tossed an old wine bottle containing two notes into the water at Oceanside Pier, California, in 2010. They were both 24 at the time.

On Thursday, it was discovered on a beach in Ipan, Guam, by 14-year-old high school student Javier Sanchez. The bottle was 6,190 miles from its starting point.
