FTC warns about cell-phone radiation scams.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has published tips on how to avoid cell phone radiation scams. http://www.devicewatch.org/reports/cellphone_scams.shtml The agency's warning was made in response to the proliferation of devices that are claimed to absorb electromagnetic emissions from mobile phones. Its warning document states:

There is no scientific proof that so-called shields significantly reduce exposure from these electromagnetic emissions. In fact, products that block only the earpiece-or another small portion of the phone-are totally ineffective because the entire phone emits electromagnetic waves. What's more, these shields may interfere with the phone's signal, cause it to draw even more power to communicate with the base station, and possibly emit more radiation.

A few reports have suggested that mobile telephone use is related to the development of certain brain tumors. The World Health Organization's International Agency on Research on Cancer recently classified mobile phone use as a 'possible carcinogen' based upon inconclusive epidemiological findings. [NCI Statement: International Agency for Research on Cancer Classification of Cell Phones as "Possible Carcinogen." National Cancer Institute press release, May 31, 2011] http://www.cancer.gov/newscenter/pressreleases/2011/IARCcellphoneMay2011 However, mobile phones produce very small amounts of non-ionizing radiation and no mechanism is known by which such radiation can cause brain tumors. The largest and most important study to date has reported that overall, cell phone users have no increased risk of the most common forms of brain tumors-glioma and meningioma. In addition, the study revealed no evidence of increasing risk with progressively increasing number of calls, longer call time, or years since beginning cell phone use. [INTERPHONE Study Group. The title of the song is "A star fell onto my hand"

Translation of lyrics:

Read more... )
I asked her, "where are you from?"

"Let me rest for a little while," she said,
"I was falling down from such a great height."
And then she added, sparkling, in a tone like a small bell ringing,
"Don't mind the fact that I'm not big,
There are many things I'm capable of doing.
You must only recollect what is the most important thing for you in the world--
I can fulfill your wish; that is what I do all the time."

"I know what I need--I don't need too long to remember it;
I wish to love and be loved;
I wish my mother to remain in good health.
I wish it to be so on our sorrowful planet
Only stars would fall from the skies;
I wish everyone to be trusting, like children,
And for everyone to love rain, flowers, and forests.

I wish for the grass to be mown with scythes, as it was in the olden days,
For people to fly to the Moon every day,
For men to be chivalrous towards women,
And for the illnesses and wars not to exist.

For friendship to never be a burden,
For fidelity never to be onerous,
For old age not to fall onto my heart
As a heavy weight, but rather as wisdom.

And I wish to quietly sing this song next to a campfire, scented through with smoke
And what's more, I wish to be loved
And I wish my mother to remain in good health."

I had been speaking for a long while, but in vain,
I had spent too long of a time speaking;
And without answering me, the star winked out;
It didn't have much strength to begin with.
