In the pavilions of the "Russia" exhibition at VDNH*, the correspondent of "Fontanka" newspaper asked Vladimir Medinsky**, one of the advisors of the President of the Russian Federation, if Peterburg is still considered a window to Europe*** or in this new historical reality, the city needs to choose a different major role for itself.

"We didn't need to cut a window to Europe. We had plenty of different doors and gates and all other kinds of things like that around us," declared Vladimir Medinsky. In his opinion, "...we have plenty of windows and doors"..."we ARE Europe". The advisor to the president remarked that Europe "the Christian, cultural, genuine, Roman, Byzantine" is Russia, and its neighbors have yet to prove that they "are still Europe".

"Let them look at us through the windows and doors and learn from us," he summed up his remarks.
