For someone else, the role of Othello embodies bliss and reward,
But I--I am an entirely different kind of person! I only enjoy vaudevilles.
For instance, I do not find Richard III in the least interesting--
More than anything in the world, I love a vaudeville with lots of songs!

Ah, vaudeville, vaudeville, vaudeville,
Music, songs, intrigues, and dances,
Even though it used to be a bit simple and naive,
Even though it still remains the same,
Do not judge it in a condescending fashion,
Do not say the jokes fall flat.
Everything that we now call entertainment
Had its beginning on stages like this one.

Every day, the gloomy tragic actor
With never-waning interest
Kills two or three people, according to the play he's in.
As to me, I am tired--so very tired! of all these murders,
More than anything in the world,
I love a vaudeville that has a love intrigue in it!
