A Literary Dispute/Литературная Дискуссия

med_cat: (Watson bookworm)

Let's start a literary discussion? My LJ-friend [info]primavera2006 has made the following statement (which is copied here by her permission):

"And I have graduated with a degree in literature summa cum laude and, therefore, have the right and will say the following:  all works of world literature (fiction, that is) can be summarized like this: 'kittens cried, pricked themselves, but continued to chow down on the cactus'--yes, I understand, that is heterodox as opposed to the common viewpoint."

Comments? Opinions? Agree? Disagree?

What DOES it mean to be a nurse?

med_cat: (Ad astra)
A senior colleague posed this question the other day...

I wonder...

This has been the subject of much discussion in several courses I've taken for my Master's degree in nursing. And in one of the classes, someone made this comment (don't recall who, which class, or the original source of the comment):

The public sees the nurse as one of the four:

1. The ministering angel (Lady with the lamp)
2. The doctor's handmaiden (Yes, Sir, let me fetch the chart and hold the towel for you)
3. A battleaxe (like Nurse Ratchett)
4. A sex symbol (No comment)

So! I'd love to hear others' opinions :)

Question re: Latin

Hi all,

Anybody here could tell me the exact translation of this quotation from Francis Bacon?

"Natura enim non nisi parendo vincitur."

Thank you!
