Unfortunate Coincidence

By the time you swear you're his,
Shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is
Infinite, undying,
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

***
There once was a woman, or so I am told,
Whose lover grew weary, whose lover grew cold.
"My child," he remarked, "though the episode ends,
In the manner of men, I suggest we be friends."
And the truest of friends ever after they were.
Oh, they lied through their teeth when they told me of her!
