Response to rabidsamfan's 5-words meme :)

med_cat: (progress notes notebook)

These were the words given to me:

Hmm, I'm rather limited, as I've only just got around to friending you back, but lets go with:

Russian
Holmes
Watson
poetry
kittycat

(I really want to use phrases, I do. It would give me more options if I combined the first two. On the other hand, I am curious as to why Russian and why Holmes separately as well...

Hmm, let's see...for a recent acquaintance, you picked good ones J
Russian: I am from there and that's my native language. And I've been translating from the website about the Russian SH series for elaby and others :)

Holmes: I've liked Conan Doyle's stories since I was little (read them in translation then, of course).

Watson: who wouldn't want such a loyal friend? Also, I'm a nurse (and I originally planned to be a doctor), so the medical "stuff" interests me very much

Poetry: always liked it and I can recite a good number of poems by heart (good memory training and I enjoy it). A large proportion of the books I own are collections of poems (anthologies as well as single-author).

Kittycat: always wanted a cat but never had one.

Well? Is this enough detail or is there something else you'd like to know ;)

Cheers,
Cat

It is a fun meme, isn't it? Although I admit I'd love to see you waffle on more about Holmes and Watson. Then again, I have a very high tolerance for Holmes and Watson wafflage.

Yes, it is a fun meme; thanks for sharing it!

"Waffle on"? Sure--what would you like to see? What I think of their relationship? Granada and/or Russian series interpretation of/faithfulness to the stories? Something else? ;)

Thanks,
Cat

Ooh, Russian series definitely, and what you think of their relationship!

Well, the Russian series--you can read what I've been translating from their website in my journal :) Click on the tags and you can find it :)

As to my own opinion, it was a good series. It took some liberties with the stories (of course), but the actors and the director said they really enjoyed working on it, and it shows :) Livanov and Solomin actually met for the first time at the audition and became very close friends during the seven years of filming. The series had some hilarious scenes...the oatmeal in the Hound of the Baskervilles...and the well-polished coffeepot scene in the same movie...priceless!

As to the relationship in the stories...it is rare to see so deep and lasting a friendship...I think that is part of the stories' timeless appeal. And one can sympathize with Watson--he always tries so hard but can never quite measure up to his friend's brilliance.

Does that answer your question or is there something else you'd like me to discuss?

Thanks,
Cat
