(Mark Twain, Life on the Missisipi)
"People used to ask me, you know, to explain DNA. They'd ask, 'What is the significance of DNA for mankind, Dr. Watson?' It's unanswerable."
(Dr. James Watson)
"DNA, you know, is Midas' gold. Everyone who touches it goes mad."
(Dr. Maurice Wilkins)
For those of you who are curious--four people shared in discovery of DNA structure: Maurice Wilkins, James Watson, Francis Crick, and Rosalind Franklin. Three of them shared the Nobel prize for it; Rosalind Franklin did not (she had actually done most of the work, but they don't award Nobels posthumously :(
Sorry--I know you all probably thought it's the other Dr. Watson the quotation would be from!
Cheers,
Cat
