King Francis was a hearty king, and loved a royal sport,

And one day as his lions fought, sat looking on the court;

The nobles filled the benches, and the ladies in their pride,

Король Франциск - знаток забав и зрелищных боёв -

пришёл в зверинец при дворце смотреть на драку львов.

Созвал он дам, привёл вельмож полюбоваться драмой.

Там сел меж ними граф де Лорж с его любимой дамой.

Их ждёт потеха из потех. Вверху, заполнив цирк, -

вся знать. Король - так выше всех. Внизу - звериный фырк.
