This weird shaped fruit is perfectly edible!

Popular in supermarkets in Japan and China, the fruit is put into a mold while its very young in order to grow into its desired shape. While Buddha or heart shaped fruit is fun and frivolous, this molding technique could be most practically applicable for packing purposes.
