Day One~A Song
This is sung by Andrei Mironov (1941--1987), who was, without a doubt, one of the best Soviet actors.
The song comes from a movie "Put In A Kind Word For The Poor Hussar."
Lyrics and translation:
Through the village, boys are running, And girls, married women, and children, Like a herd of locusts; The trumpeters are blowing their trumpets. Conversation is heard: Hussars have come to visit us! All moustached, as if specially picked, The trumpeters are blowing trumpets. The commander's voice is heard: Take your quarters! Time is coming closer to the night, The trumpeters are blowing trumpets. During that night, There was a lot of whispering between women and soldiers: Without you, darling, I'm so sad I could cry, Blow your trumpet for me, too, trumpeter. And when reveille was played, Women were wiping tears, And, having packed provender in their saddlebags, Trumpeters were leaving. A year later, in every little wooden house A boy was born; All the boys hollered loudly-- They'll become trumpeters, too!
