In life, there is a huge number of situations, things, or people, whom or which we don't find suitable and haven't found them suitable for a long time already.
Например:
— Отношения, которые давно в тягость.
— Работа, которая давно надоела.
— Бизнес, который приносит одни убытки.
For instance:
Relationships which bring no pleasure
Work you're sick and tired of
Business which brings only losses
Но по неизвестным причинам мы цепляемся за борт тонущего корабля в надежде, что он может быть, поплывет когда-нибудь, тратя на это оставшиеся нервы, время, деньги.
But for unknown reasons, we cling to the side of the sinking ship, because we hope that sometime, the ship might sail again...meanwhile, we use up the remaining energy, time, and money doing that.
Разумеется, если принимать во внимание установки – «терпенье и труд, все перетрут», необходимо проявлять упорство и не сдаваться. И в этом случае должен быть индикатор–показатель — точные сроки исполнения целей.
Of course, if one considers the injunction "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again," then one should be persistent and not give up. But even in that case, there should be a deadline--the exact time by which those goals should get accomplished.
Но если его нет, тогда уясни древнюю индейскую пословицу:
Лошадь сдохла – слезь!
If there isn't such a deadline, then consider an old Native American proverb:
If your horse died, get off it!

Мы сидим возле лошади и уговариваем ее не быть дохлой.
Мы покупаем средства, которые помогают скакать быстрее на дохлых лошадях.
Мы изменяем критерии опознавания дохлых лошадей.
Мы посещаем другие места чтобы посмотреть, как там скачут на дохлых лошадях.
Мы собираем коллег, чтобы дохлую лошадь проанализировать.
Мы стаскиваем дохлых лошадей ,в надежде, что вместе они будут скакать быстрее.
Мы нанимаем специалистов по дохлым лошадям.
It seems the message of that saying is clear, but...
We convince ourselves that there's still hope.
We flog the horse harder.
We say, "We always rode the horse in this manner."
We start a movement for reviving the dead horses.
We devise an explanation that our dead horse is "much better, faster, and cheaper."
We organize a comparison of various dead horses.
We sit by the horse and try to convince it not to be dead.
We buy substances which allow us to ride dead horses faster.
We assemble our colleagues to analyze the dead horse.
We drag the dead horses together in the hope that together, they will run faster.
We hire specialists on the subject of dead horses.
Если лошадь сдохла – слезь!

but of those scenarios listed, well, they're really not that big a deal, it's mostly perspective - "oh i don't like platform A, all the cool trains are on platform B! If only i was on platform B..." etc.
I don't - i mean, i've never been much good at understanding stuff.
