Пошла как-то девушка по воду и выловила в колодце колечко. Не простое оказалось колечко, а волшебное.

A young woman went to the well once upon a time and fished out a ring from the well. The ring turned out to be a magic one.

- Отпусти меня, красна девица! - молвило колечко. - Я любое твоё желание исполню.

Let me go, lovely lady!--the ring said. --I'll fulfill any wish you ask me for.

- Хочу голого принца - любящего меня, умного, доброго, да по возможности богатого! - не удивляясь и не раздумывая, заявила девушка.

I want a naked prince--one who loves me, is smart, kind, and if possible, rich!--the girl immediately said, entirely unsurprised.

- Вот те раз! - удивилось колечко и уточнило, - но хоть на белом коне?
- Нет! - отрезала девушка. - Пешего!
- Но почему? - не унималось колечко.

--Wow, OK...the ring responded surprised, and inquired--"but he should be riding a white horse, right?"
"No!" the girl exclaimed. "He should be on foot!"
"But why?!" the ring persisted.

- Лет 20 назад моя мать выловила в этом же колодце волшебный браслет, и он так же, как и ты, предложил за свою свободу выполнить её желание. Она возьми да и закажи принца на белом коне.
- На белом? - переспросил браслет.
- На белом! - ответила возрадовавшаяся маманя.
- А конь с золотыми подковами?
- Ой, с золотыми!
- А уздечка, небось, из чистого серебра, с изумрудами?
- Ах, с изумрудами!
- И принц в шляпе со страусиными перьями?
- Вот-вот, со страусиными!
- Да и камзол у него расшит каменьями драгоценными?
- Да, да, да! - воскликнула моя маманя и выпустила браслет.

About 20 years ago my mother fished out a magic bracelet out of this same well, and it, too, offered her any wish if she let him go. So...she asked for a prince on a white horse.
--On a white horse? the bracelet reiterated the question.
--Yes, on a white horse! responded my mother, rejoicing.
--Should the horse have gold horseshoes?
--Oh yes, gold!
--And the bridle--I guess you want it to be of pure silver studded with emeralds?
--Oh yes, with emeralds!
--And the prince should wear a hat with ostrich feathers on it?
--Yes, that's right, with ostrich feathers!
--And his doublet should be decorated with gemstones?
--Yes, yes, yes!--my mother exclaimed and let the bracelet go.

Враз прискакал принц на белом коне. Ах, что это был за конь! Подковы из чистого золота, глаза горят, уздечка из чистого серебра с изумрудами да бриллиантами! А камзол на принце весь так и сиял драгоценными каменьями! Но принц! Что это был за принц! Кривой, горбатый, рожа глупая, нос от пьянства весь синий, разговор - мат-перемат! Всё своё царство, коня своего и камзол он вскоре пропил, а как узнал, что матушка мной беременна, бросил её и ушёл к другой.

Immediately, a prince on a white horse rode up to her. Oh, what a stunning horse! Horseshoes of pure gold, eyes shining, bridle of pure silver with emeralds and diamonds! And the prince's doublet shone and sparkled with gemstones! But the prince himself! Oh, what a prince he was! One-eyed, hunchbacked, stupid expression on his face, nose all blue from constant drinking, and his conversation--one four-letter word upon another! All his kingdom, his horse, and his doublet he soon drank away, and as soon as he found out my mother was pregnant with me, he left her for another woman.
