Daily probiotic therapy halved the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia in a select group of patients in the intensive care unit, U.S. researchers found. The study, which used twice-daily doses of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, also showed that the treatment reduced the amount of antibiotics needed after almost five years. Science Blog (6/16)
