Quote of the day: Florence Nightingale

med_cat: (progress notes notebook)
Today marks 100 years since the death of Florence Nightingale. And to her, we owe a great debt--she was one of the very first individuals to place the profession of nursing on a scientific footing.

"When I am no longer even a memory, just a name, I hope my voice may perpetuate the great work of my life. God bless my dear old comrades of Balaclava and bring them safe to shore."

Florence Nightingale

You can listen to a recording of this quotation in her own voice here: www.countryjoe.com/nightingale/nutting.htm

And here is her museum: www.florence-nightingale.co.uk/cms/

And here is another article about her: www.montrealgazette.com/health/just+devoted+gooder/3388505/story.html

Yes, I must see that museum myself sometime. I'm annoyed with myself now--I had been to London several years ago but did not realise her museum was there...
