Air conditioning helps minimize risks linked to heat
A California study found people with air conditioning at home were less likely to develop serious heat-related illnesses during extreme temperature hikes than people without air conditioning. The researchers found that increased hospitalization rates -- for pneumonia, stroke, diabetes, heat stroke and other conditions -- typically associated with temperature spikes were mediated by the use of air conditioning.
