The birch under my window

Vladimir Vorobyov, The Old Birch (pic from [livejournal.com profile] levkonoe )
**

What a lovely and ethereal painting. : )

My pleasure; if I could rhyme, I'd translate the poem better;) but the text is:

A white birch
Under my window
Has covered itself with snow
As if it were silver.

On the fluffy branches
Like an edging of snow
The brushes have blossomed
Into a white fringe.

And the birch stands
In sleepy silence
And the snowflakes burn
In a golden flame.

And the sunrise, indolently
Circling around it,
Shakes new silver
onto the branches.

Thank you for translating the poem, Cat. It's just as lovely as the artwork! : )

My pleasure...in fact, I'd recalled the poem (we read it in school, way back when...:) and looked for a picture to illustrate. Esenin had written some beautiful poems...beautiful art and an unhappy life, as is often the case...
