Researchers learned that 5% of emergency department patients at a Boston facility were diagnosed with methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection and more than half of these had MRSA on multiple sites. Patients with diabetes, HIV and those with skin or soft tissue complications were among the high-risk groups for MRSA infection, according to the study in the Annals of Emergency Medicine.
