"I forgot my phone"

med_cat: (cat in dress)

(thanks to [livejournal.com profile] konstansa for the video and interview quote)

"I came up with the idea for the video when I started to realise how ridiculous we are all being, myself included, when I was at a concert and people around me were recording the show with their phones, not actually watching the concert," deGuzman said in an interview.
"It makes me sad that there are moments in our lives where we're not present because we're looking at a phone," said deGuzman, who also wrote the piece, which was directed by Miles Crawford.
People make dinner reservations on OpenTable; check in on Foursquare when they arrive at the restaurant; take a picture of their food to share on Instagram; post on Twitter a joke they hear during the meal; review the restaurant on Yelp; then, finally, coordinate a ride home using Uber."

And here's an article about a Facebook app, 'Rather': http://news.yahoo.com/rather-is-a-new-service-that-blocks-all-of-your-friends-most-annoying-facebook-status-updates-153026382.html

This is the bit that caught my eye:

" 'Rather' sounds like a jokey comment on the way we “socialize” now, but even if it is, it also represents a line of thought that would make Facebook genuinely enjoyable instead of the digital-life obligation it’s become."

P.S. Here's another interesting article re: Facebook: http://wendykeller.com/featured/liars-fakes-on-facebook/

I still remember when the first mobile phones first show up in the market... they were huge. I, for many years, refused to have a mobile phone. Then one day I got one. My first mobile phone I only could phone and send text messages. Now I have got a smart phone where I can phone, send texts, take pictures, do videos and go on the net. Without the phone I would feel lost. Amazing as I come from a generation that we did not have them. But on saying that I use it when I need it. But I see people that are always with the phones checking this and that. They use and abuse it.

On social network like Facebook... well... At first it was quite enjoyable. I still have got the account and lately I play more games than anything. Sometimes I get to talk briefly with one or two people but it is not enjoyable anymore.

Thank you for your comment :)

Agreed, a smart phone can be an useful tool, or a way to waste a lot of time...so yes, it is how one uses it as well. I don't have one myself, but I don't really need it.

Re: FB, agreed. It was rather the opposite with me, I played different FB games a fair amount with several friends for a while, but then I got tired of all the games...
