Quote of the day

med_cat: (woman reading)
To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease, and lightness. This state is then no longer dependent upon things being in a certain way, good or bad. It seems almost paradoxical, yet when your inner dependency on form is gone, the general conditions of your life, the outer forms, tend to improve greatly.

Things, people, or conditions that you thought you needed for your happiness now come to you with no struggle or effort on your part, and you are free to enjoy and appreciate them - while they last.

All those things, of course, will still pass away, cycles will come and go, but with dependency gone there is no fear of loss anymore. Life flows with ease.

— Eckhart Tolle
~~
Rather similar to Seneca's "Ducunt volentem fata, nolentem trahunt" ("The willing are led by fate, the reluctant dragged"), is it not?

I love, love, love Eckhart Tolle!

"Life is now. There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there be."

I recall taking a look at his "The Power of Now" some years ago, actually, when buying it for my niece, who'd wanted it...wasn't impressed with the book myself, too New-Agey for my liking, but some of the quotes I'm running across recently are good...

Someone else had a funny story re: that book; had you seen the 65_redroses LJ?

I have the Power of Now, and I thought it insightful, but very New-Agey.
I haven't seen it, no, so I'll have a look.

Quite, very New-Agey, so I didn't care for it myself...

65_redroses: she had an incident with that book:

"I was in the hospital one sunny day last July, very sick, high fever, on oxygen…still unable to catch my breath even just lying in the hospital bed. My boyfriend Greg came to visit and he brought a book to read to me to get my mind off being so sick. He brought The Power of Now, an inspirational book about living for the moment. I’m sure this book has helped many people but well…I’ll give you the gist of the first chapter. “ There are no problems in your life…all you have to do is take ONE DEEP BREATH” I lost it. I laughed so hard tears poured out of my eyes…take a deep breath and your problems would be gone? If I could take a deep breath I wouldn’t HAVE any problems. "

the full entry is here, do watch the vocal mask, it is incredible:

It was very sad to read that. Poor girl, but at least she found something useful in the book...
I browsed through that LJ. I really, really liked reading the post.

It is a remarkable LJ; I'd read it in its entirety. She was a remarkable person. Watch the "vocal mask" play, it is truly unique :)

Thank-you.
