Augustine Eruption 2006
— A shot of the Augustine volcano toward the end of it's long eruption that lasted several months. In January 2006, the volcano explosively erupted—flight paths were moved, and flights were cancelled to avoid aircraft encounters with volcanic ash. For the time period of January 11 - March 20, the Anchorage Volcanic Ash Advisory Center issued 567 text reports concerning Augustine. Commercial airline flights in western Alaska were cancelled on January 18; additional commercial airline flights to/from Anchorage were cancelled on January 30, 2006. This photo was taken on March 27, 2006.
