Do not wallow in your mistakes. Do not grovel and prostrate yourself in hopes of forgiveness. We all make mistakes. Apologize and move forward. Do not replay the event in your head. Do not continue to beat yourself up. Do not profusely explain, defend yourself, make excuses or blame. After you apologize, do no more explaining; never explain more than once — ever. When you keep explaining and rehashing you just keep your mistake alive. Learn your lesson and adjust your behavior and move forward. Let people see you overcoming your mistakes with integrity. Most mistakes which seem huge in the heat of the moment are quickly forgotten. We often even further bond with others through surviving our mistakes together. Big mistakes are an outstanding opportunity to showcase your ability to recover and have grace under pressure. The bigger the mistake the bigger the opportunity. This is how you turn it all around.

But in order to move on you have to look at yourself and consider if it is you who are going wrong. That is what I have been doing. have been discussing things with friends and I realise now that whilst I need to address some things, it is not all down to me. With that in mind I can now move on!

I am afraid I don't really understand all of it. I know there will always be evil in the world and I know we have to learn lessons in life. But I don't follow the rest of it.

If you read the link to the book review, that I'd provided within the entry, and which gives an overview of the book, you will see what the context is, and I think then the discussion I'd quoted from the book will make sense.
