My Virtual Reading Room

I remember reading translated Russian novels when I was a teenager and being baffled by the word 'samovar' that kept cropping up, and which was evidently untranslatable (though later I learned some Czech and realised it just meant 'self boiler'). I looked it up in a dictionary and it told me what a samovar did, but there was no picture. The internet did not yet exist and so I had to imagine what one looked like for some years until I finally saw one.
