Sometimes not, of course...(and no, no precipitation here yet)

("It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily. "_And_ freezing." "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.")

Nice one. Made me laugh. On saying that the moral of the story is, it could be worse than it is...

Yes...it amused me too, and I had to share--esp. as the areas just a few hours north of us are snowed under ;)

And sure, this perspective doesn't always help, but sometimes...

Though earthquakes are nothing to worry about in these parts, they are barely perceptible if they can be felt at all.

Probably that's the reason for Eeyore's remark ;)

Mhm...something along the lines of Zig Ziglar, perhaps?

"Expect the best, prepare for the worst, capitalize on what comes"

Excessive optimism can certainly be detrimental...e.g.:

"An optimist fell twenty stories;
At every window bar
He shouted to his friends:
'OK so far!' "

:P

Absolutely
Blind hope masking practical expectations

Yes...of course, extreme pessimism is equally detrimental, as in this case:

Oh yes...the antidote to Monty Python's "always look on the bright side of life"

Something like that...although the last couple lines of the poem are quite sensible ;)
