A poet whose work I just came across the other day, one Nikolai Agvnivtsev, one of the Silver Age Russian poets. Most of his work has the humorous/courtly/times-gone-by themes.

О ДРАКОНЕ

     Как-то раз путем окрестным
     Пролетал дракон и там
     По причинам неизвестньм
     Стал глотать девиц и дам.
     Был ужасный он обжора
     И, глотая что есть сил
     Безо всякого разбора,
     В результате проглотил:

Синьориту Фиаметту,
     Монну Юлию Падетту,
     Аббатису Агриппину,
     Синьорину Форнарину,
     Донну Лючию ди Рона,
     Пять сестер из Авиньона
     И шестьсот семнадцать дам,
     Неизвестных вовсе нам!

     Но однажды граф Тедеско,
     Забежав дракону в тыл,
     Вынул меч и очень резко
     С тем драконом поступил!
     Разрубив его на части,
     Граф присел. И в тот же миг
     Из драконьей вышли пасти
     И к нему на шею прыг

     Синьорита Фиаметта,
     Монна Юлия Падетта,
     Аббатиса Агриппина,
     Синьорина Форнарина,
     Донна Лючия ди Рона,
     Пять сестер из Авиньона
     И шестьсот семнадцать дам,
     Неизвестных вовсе нам!

     Бедный тот дракон в несчастьи,
     Оказавшись не у дел,
     Подобрал свои все части,
     Плюнул вниз и улетел.
     И, увы, с тех пор до гроба
     Храбрый граф, пустившись в путь,
     Все искал дракона, чтобы
     С благодарностью вернуть
     Синьориту Фиаметту,
     Монну Юлию Падетту,
     Аббатису Агриппину,
     Синьорину Форнарину,
     Донну Лючию ди Рона,
     Пять сестер из Авиньона
     И шестьсот семнадцать дам,
     Неизвестных вовсе нам!

About a Dragon

Once it happened that a dragon
Was flying through the area
And there, for unknown reasons,
He began swallowing maidens and ladies.
He was an awful glutton
And, swallowing with all his might
And without any selection,
As a result, had swallowed:

The Signorita Fiamette,
Monna Julia Padette,
The Abbess Agrippine,
Signorina Fornarine,
Donna Lucia di Rone,
Five sisters from Avignon,
And six hundred and seventeen ladies,
Who are altogether unknown to us!

But one time, the Count Tedesco,
Having run behind the dragon,
Pulled out his sword
And dealt with that dragon very sharply!
Having hacked him into pieces,
The count sat down to rest. And in that very moment
Out of the dragon's maw and onto the count's neck leaped

The Signorita Fiamette,
Monna Julia Padette,
The Abbess Agrippine,
Signorina Fornarine,
Donna Lucia di Rone,
Five sisters from Avignon,
And six hundred and seventeen ladies,
Who are altogether unknown to us!

That poor dragon, in his misfortune
Finding himself at loose ends,
Picked up all his parts,
Spat downwards and flew away.
And alas, since that time and until his grave
The brave count, having set out on the road
Kept seeking that dragon,
To gratefully return

The Signorita Fiamette,
Monna Julia Padette,
The Abbess Agrippine,
Signorina Fornarine,
Donna Lucia di Rone,
Five sisters from Avignon,
And six hundred and seventeen ladies,
Who are altogether unknown to us!
