Haha. Similar problem encountered by archaeologists, especially buildings archaeologists. A friend of mine came to visit me once. Firstly he couldn't resist bringing me a mammoth tooth to show me. By the next morning he'd worked out that the tile window sills in our building were linked to brickwork owner who had helped finance it in the 1930s. Then we went to the nearest village and, before leaving his car, he'd identified a former brewery chimney and dated an unusual window to 15th century.

Any true scientist worthy of their salt would quote the time using a 24-hour clock. A truly pedantic one (Hi there!) would also reference the time to UTC +/-.
