All melons are supposed to have originated in India
The first recorded watermelon harvest occurred in Egypt about 5, 000 years ago
Is tomato a fruit or a vegetable? The case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1893.
And yes, tomato was decided to be a vegetable for everyday purposes (it had to do with import tariffs, see here for a more detailed explanation and here for the legal documents.

Instead I will think of Copper Age Indian traders presenting melons to a Predynastic Egyptian baron, and his wife being delighted and demanding they plant some right away.
I just thought the court case was interesting, I'd never heard of it before. And yes, nice historical scene--you should draw it or write a story about it--free plotbunny for you ;)
