Hamilton Hamilton (American, 1847–1928).
Born in Oxford England, self-taught Hamilton was one of the greatest painters of Colorado and the American West.
During an expedition to Colorado in 1873, he painted 47 scenes in the new impressionist style which were chosen for display at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of 1876.
He was made a full member of the National Academy of Design in 1889 and went on to found the important Silvermine Guild of Artists in Connecticut.
His paintings are now held in the collections of the National Academy of Design Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Lowe Art Museum, and the Columbus Museum of Art.
