A ginkgo tree in autumn

med_cat: (cat in dress)

The tree's leaves have created the illusion of a golden carpet at the Zen Buddhist Temple in Luohandong village, China

Right now Graham's favourite tree, a towering ancient ginkgo is donning its autumn robes! Located within the walls of the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple in the Zhongnan Mountains in China, this tree has captured the world's attention. Planted for Emperor Li Shimin, Tang Dynasty, ruling from 629 to 649.

What do you think of these breathtaking photos? Did you know that the ginkgo is also known as the maidenhair tree (due to shape of its leaf)? Photos were released on the People’s Daily Online.

...imagine if this tree could talk--the stories it could tell...;)

Amazing colours. Weird to think it's older than a whole lot of dead people in my family tree, too. I wonder if aliens judge the foremost inhabitants of a planet by longevity. They would have the most interesting and complete stories, after all. If from a unique angle.

That's just gorgeous! Ah, ginkgos; one of my all-time favorite trees - Woodland Park Cemetery and Arboretum (https://www.google.com/search?q=woodland+cemetery+dayton&rlz=1C1EODB_enUS546US546&biw=1024&bih=643&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi48MyExrDJAhUY5WMKHSQGDo8Q_AUICCgD#tbm=isch&tbs=rimg%3ACUxt8i_1hlo7AIjgjjHErb8qERON25mVuYhldUg2avhJLzA-2-RNwokgcooUDx8oiT8CaSc7r0Yy41ZtAYWEeqpiIXCoSCSOMcStvyoREESQbab-V8eaxKhIJ43bmZW5iGV0Rb9p_1h2aRdiIqEglSDZq-EkvMDxGDThHCJF70sCoSCbb5E3CiSByiEV8sKvFgk2HMKhIJhQPHyiJPwJoRiEtJ5QlP8VgqEglJzuvRjLjVmxGkwXiySmMKgyoSCUBhYR6qmIhcEZESorDEJmEq&q=woodland%20cemetery%20dayton) in Dayton Ohio has lots of them, some very old. The Autumn foliage there is amazing.

There's one little ginkgo in our local park, and its bright yellow leaves make me look every time I pass it in the Fall. Someday I hope it'll be as old and as big as the one in this photo.

A lovely park and arboretum, thanks for the link; I'll have to visit if I ever travel that way :)

That's nice re: local ginkgo; haven't seen any of them around here; lots of other colorful foliage, though.

My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed. The city where I was born once had an ancient oak, but it wasn't anywhere near as old--only around 300 years, I think ;)
