Quote of the day

med_cat: (cat in dress)

"So avoid using the word 'very' because it's lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted.
Don't use 'very sad', use 'morose'. Language was invented for one reason, boys--to woo women--
and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do."

(Robin Williams in his role as the English teacher Mr. Keating, "Dead Poets Society")

So true - and this also reminds how much I miss Robin Williams.

This reminds me of my debate over "Quite"!

Yes, except "very" is not ambiguous the way "quite" apparently is ;)

Robin Williams was a great man. (very great would be extraordinary, - and I suppose, in many ways, he was extraordinary).

Good advice. I'll try to eliminate the word "very" (not the vary) from my vocabulary ... and also limit "s/he said" and cut my usage of "the".

Indeed he was...

The advice is good; I seem to recall Mark Twain making a similar recommendation...:)
