Firefighters in Topeka, Kan., rescued a cat from a tree. They also rescued its owner after she scaled the tree to fetch her cat.
A fire department shift commander said the woman and the cat were 16 feet up in a large tree when they were plucked out Wednesday.
And, he said, that kind of dual rescue isn't uncommon in Topeka. (AP)

Driven to succeed

...I confess I am curious to know what this gentleman's other achievements are...

I'm curious too. It seems his whole trouble with driving was that he couldn't cope with a manual transmission (http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/meet-the-south-yorkshire-man-who-needed-33-attempts-and-25-years-to-pass-his-driving-test-1-8484637); once he got an automatic, he was fine.
In America this wouldn't even be a *thing*; most cars here are automatic. I can't drive a stick either, and don't think I even know anyone who has one.
Totally off-topic, something so cute from

I see re: stickshift...what puzzles me then is why none of his instructors thought to suggest trying a car with an automatic transmission?!
(and yes, I'm sure I'd have trouble with the manual one, myself)
Fun article, thanks for sharing :)
