"The Hummingbird", by Harry Kemp

The Hummingbird

The sunlight speaks. And its voice is a bird:
It glimmers half-guessed half seen half-heard
Above the flower-bed. Over the lawn...

A flashing dip and it is gone.
And all it lends to the eye is this--
A sunbeam giving the air a kiss.

(Harry Kemp)

I love poems like this. If I didn't know what hummingbirds were like this poem would tell me, and since I do this fills me with nostalgic joy.

I love how you phrased it :)

Glad you liked the poem. It was one of the poems in Brookgreen Gardens; I'd posted a photo in the comments to this entry; take a look ;)
