‘Just about everyone should be prepared to get infected during this wave’

Given omicron’s breakneck transmissibility, Ohio State University chief quality and patient safety officer Iahn Gonsenhauser says, “Just about everyone should be prepared to get infected during this wave, even if you’ve been vaccinated.”

Awful thought. Glad we're fully vaccinated & have also had our boosters + we wear masks everywhere.

Hope you and your family are safe and well, Cat.

Indeed…

From what I have read and seen Omicron is nothing more than a cold so I am hoping this will bring immunity to all. If we must live with this virus it should be nothing more than the Flu.

From what I have read and seen, the evidence is not quite so conclusive at this time...

...time will tell as it always does. I find the 30-50 mutations to be extremely odd and in a practical sense more mutations would note less severity which is what the doctor who discovered this variant is saying. I haven't heard of any hospitalizations related to Omicron but then again I do not see all or know all. ;)

We shall see over the next few weeks, as you say.

Re: omicron-related hospitalizations: a lot of hospitals do not test for the type of virus, I do believe.

Can they test for it, yet? Is the test they have now a general one for the first variant? I can't recall but it did mutate in China and ravaged the world. Science is always playing "catch-up".

Sure, it's possible to test, but not all hospitals and urgent care facilities test for which variant it is.

I figured as much.
