The vernacular of deprivation, control, and aspirational containment that pervaded the pop culture of the ‘90s and 2000s.
The Relentless Reality of Anti-Fatness in Fitness
A look at how we got to this point and where we go from here.
Fat-Bias Could Have Killed This Patient
— How a patient was misdiagnosed because of his weight
...and that's why everyone is taught in diagnostics that you look at the whole picture, and that algorithms are the beginning, not the end, and that while you look for horses first, you look for ALL the horses...but apparently, some people forget these lessons.

Sweden, I think, is even worse with anti-fat bias. There is a sort of widespread belief among Swedes that they're a fit and healthy people because Swedish culture encourages moderation ("lagom") and because it's very outdoors-oriented. So if you're a fat person, well, you're fat because you're not lagom enough in your habits, and if you're fat with health problems (like...my boyfriend...) then the health problems will probably disappear if you lose weight, because if you lose weight that's a sign you've gone back to a proper lagom lifestyle.
(I think this belief in inherent fitness due to lagom culture is one of the factors behind our terrible Covid policies as well. "Oh, well, other countries might need to be worried because they're fat alcoholics who smoke like chimneys, but really for us it's just another cold so not a big deal!")
...and...some other countries like your Covid policies...
