The tango is such an erotic dance - basically foreplay to music. To see two men dancing tango is surreal, but appealing. (And that enormous Victrola is astonishing.)

It appears to have been designed for use in dance halls. The larger horn would amplify the reproduced sound, so the music could fill the dance hall.

THe horn on a Victrola is basically a megaphone. The larger the size of the cone, the more air it can cause to vibrate. More vibration is louder sound. It's a purely mechanical amplifier.
